Setting up Network Identification:

Step 3
Next you will need to click the Identification tab in the Network Window (figure 14). There will be three fields. The first field is Computer Name. Type a name for the computer in this field. The computer name needs to be unique for each machine on your network.

(Examples: Chris's Machine, Mom's Machine or Red, Blue, Green)

The most important thing is to keep it simple so it will be easily remembered.

In the second field you will need to assign a workgroup name (figure 15)

Suggestions for names would be something like (the default, WORKGROUP, Jones Family, My Network). Remember keep it simple.

Make sure the same workgroup name is assigned on all computers on the LAN; otherwise they won't be recognized as being part of the Network.

Third, you may wish to enter a computer description; you can put anything you like here also. Again, keep it as simple as possible.

It is not necessary to provide a description - it's just a way to keep computers straight on the network.
