Access Control:After you have set up your identifications
you should specify how you want to control access to each computer. Click
on the the Access Control tab at the top of the Network screen.
Now mark Share-level access control then click the OK button (figure 16) This should take you back to the desktop. The machine should ask if you want to restart your computer; click "yes". If it doesn't ask you to restart the machine, please reboot the machine. After your machine reboots go to the next section. |

Setting Up Shares:Next you will need to choose a drive on your Host Computer that you wish to share. Click MY Computer on the Desktop. Right-click on the icon for the drive you wish to share and choose Sharing (figure 17) A window will come up that has three tabs General, Tools and Sharing. You need to click on the Sharing Tab (figure 18). |
||
|
Now mark Shared As. Then check the Shared Name field; your drive name or letter should be listed. Next go to Access Type in the same window and choose Read Only, Full or Depends on Password.
It will also reduce the risk of someone writing to the drives accidentally. A good drive to start with for sharing would be a CD-ROM drive. This is the example that I used here. Your drive letter will probably be either D or E for your CD-ROM. Don't bother with a password right now, just go ahead and click OK. You can go back and enter a password later to protect each drive on each machine. |

When you are finished it should look like (figure 19) it will have a hand under the drive icon in the My Computer window. Sharing a printer over a network is a little more involved. You should read up on sharing printers over a network and read your printer documentation. Configuring the Host Machine is finished. |
